Loss and Damage

In this session, we will begin with scene-setting presentations from the team actively engaged in on-the-ground L&D projects, highlighting the real-world challenges and opportunities for further development. These presentations will be followed by a panel discussion featuring policy and technical representatives from the UNFCCC, GGGI, and civil society, providing a comprehensive view on addressing climate-induced disasters. Additionally, as the Loss and Damage (L&D) Fund Board refines its modalities for fund access, we will explore proactive planning and implementation strategies to prepare for funding and disseminate knowledge to local communities. This initiative aims to increase awareness, build capacity, and test frameworks to enhance community access to the fund, ensuring readiness before COP29. Lastly, the Climate Defense Program will be introduced, showcasing its mission to foster climate leadership through training programs, research projects, and direct interaction with practitioners, with a special emphasis on developing female leadership and supporting Nationally Determined Contributions and adaptation plans.
