Pacific Transport Green Transition

This interactive session explores sustainable transport in Pacific Island Countries (PICs), aiming to create awareness of unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and showcase how adopting and contextualizing solutions can contribute to green growth.

The session will feature:

  • GGGI’s lessons learned and ongoing/future work in PICs;
  • Insights from the World Bank’s Reducing Car Dependency;
  • Workshops in four PICs, highlighting innovative mobility approaches;
  • 2-3 presentations from a PIC public or private sector entity speaking on sustainable transport/electric vehicle implementation experience.

We will examine how e-mobility and broader sustainable transport initiatives offer significant co-benefits, including improved health, quality of life, road safety, and reduced dependency on fuel imports. These benefits address economic uncertainties caused by fluctuating fuel prices, contributing to more resilient island economies.

By emphasizing the adaptation of global solutions to meet specific SIDS needs, the session aims to demonstrate how sustainable transport can drive green growth in these unique contexts. The session will facilitate knowledge sharing amongst SIDS and provide the global community with insights to enhance the effectiveness of their support programs for SIDS.

Participants will be able to engage in Q&A segments and this format aims to foster a deeper understanding of SIDS-specific issues, enabling better-targeted programs and support.
