As countries seek pathways toward sustainable development, the integration of water management and renewable energy solutions has emerged as a vital catalyst for building climate resilience. This session will highlight how innovative approaches at the water–energy nexus can strengthen adaptive capacities, reduce carbon footprints, and foster sustainable livelihoods.
A moderated panel will then explore practical strategies, best practices, and collaborative opportunities, drawing on the experiences of GGGI Member Countries and partners.
By showcasing forward-looking policies, innovative financing, and integrated approaches, the session aims to chart a course for transforming water and renewable energy systems into engines of climate resilience.

Sang-Hyup Kim became Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) on January 1, 2025, returning to the organization he helped establish in 2012. His 40-year career spans media, academia, and policymaking, dedicated to sustainable development and climate action.
He previously co-chaired Korea’s Presidential Commission on 2050 Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth and has advised KAIST, where he also serves as Visiting Professor. He was President of the Jeju Research Institute, Director of KAIST’s Center for Sustainable Development, and founder of the Coalition for Our Common Future, alongside numerous national and regional leadership roles.

Robyn is the Executive Director for P4G.
Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 – contributes to green and inclusive growth in low- and middle-income countries by helping early-stage businesses become investment ready and supporting country climate transitions in food, water and energy systems. Since 2018, P4G has funded 75 partnerships that have leveraged more than US $90 million in commercial investment. P4G partnerships have avoided more than 10 million metric tons of CO2 emissions, generated more than 1,000 jobs and positively affected 1.6 million people.
Robyn has spent her career helping organizations develop and advance projects in the areas of clean energy, water, climate, and sustainable development. Most recently she worked in senior management for the non-profits Winrock and Global Communities. Prior to that, she was a business unit leader for the global engineering firm MWH (now Stantec). She also worked at USAID in the Middle East and South Asia, managing energy projects and infrastructure reconstruction. Prior to she was a consultant to the US EPA, US DOE’s EERE, the World Bank and UNDP. She has lived or worked in over 20 countries spanning the US, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
Robyn holds an M.S. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia, and a B.S. in Biosystems Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Robyn spends her free time with her husband and two young boys, adventuring in the great outdoors hiking, climbing and camping. She used to be a competitive cyclist in the DC area and was the co-founder of the cycling club Artemis, which is focused on promoting women and youth in the sport. Prior to that, she competed in equestrian sports.

H.E. San Vanty currently is the Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment of the Kingdom of Cambodia. and He also former Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and was born in 1967 in Phnom Penh, the Capital City of Cambodia. Excellency gained Master’s Degree from Khon Kaen University of Thailand. Before holding the position of Secretary of State in April, 2023, Excellency has held a prominent position as Under Secretary of State of MAFF for many years, who has overseen the international cooperation affairs, including the bilateral and multilateral dialogues and discussion for the agreements and MOUs with many countries and donors. Excellency also has been playing a vital role within ASEAN and GMS collaboration framework for agriculture.

A Principal Civil Administrator and a graduate of the National School of Administration (ENA) in Dakar, Mr. Fodé FALL also holds a Master’s degree in Public Law, a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in Political Science, and a Master II in Defense, Peace, and Security obtained from the Center for Advanced Studies in Defense and Security (CHEDS). This diversified background demonstrates his commitment to strategic thinking, modern governance, and a results-oriented culture.
Over the years, he has served with competence and commitment in various levels of the territorial and central Administration: as a Research Officer at the Directorate of Public Service, Deputy to the Governor in the regions of Louga and Kolda, and subsequently as Prefect for the departments of Sédhiou, Kaolack, and Thiès. These field experiences have forged in him a keen sense of the State, of proximity to citizens, and of the concerted management of public policies.
Later called to positions of high responsibility, he successively headed the Private Office of the Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, then that of the Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, before being appointed Secretary General of the said ministry. In these roles, he ensures the effective implementation of public policies concerning the environment, sustainable development, and climate resilience, while instilling a culture of performance and integrity within the public administration.
Guided by strong values such as integrity, a sense of duty, and the pursuit of his compatriots’ well-being, Fodé FALL embodies a generation of executives for whom public service is above all a commitment to the Nation and future generations. Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno is the current Principal Secretary in charge of the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, in the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry in Kenya.
As the Principal Secretary responsible for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Ng’eno is the Focal Point of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity (UNCBD), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Global Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Environmental Fund (GEF), the Adaptation Fund, the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm (BRS) and the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).
Dr. Eng. Ng’eno is also the Chairperson of the Environment Protection, Water & Natural Resources (EPW & NR) and the Co-chair of the Environment, Climate Change & Forest Donor Coordinating Group.
He’s a Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Environment & Climate Change Expert with more than Seventeen (17) years’ experience in the Public, Private and the Non-Governmental Organization sectors.
Dr. Eng. Ng’eno holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree in Environmental & Biosystems Engineering, Master of Science (MSc.) Degree in Environmental & Biosystems Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) Degree in Environmental & Biosystems Engineering, all from the University of Nairobi. He also holds Post Graduate Diploma Certificate in Leadership & Corporate Governance from KCA University, Strategic Leadership Development Program (SLDP) from the Kenya School of Government (KSG) and the Green and Circular Economy Leadership Course under the Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) from Technical University of Denmark (TUD), Denmark.
So far, as the Principal Secretary responsible for Environment and Climate Change Department in the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, Dr. Eng. Ng’eno has led the development of key legislations and policies on Environmental Management and Climate Action including; the overhauling of the Environment Management and Coordination Act (EMCA), 1999 and its regulations to incorporate current environmental issues (on-going); review of the Climate Change Act, 2016 to incorporate legislation on Carbon Markets; development of the Carbon Markets regulations to provide a framework for development of Carbon Projects, operationalization of the Designated National Authority (DNA) to handle the Carbon Markets Projects (on-going) and the development of the Circular Economy Strategy for Sustainable Waste Management and co-ordinate the establishment of 5No. Material Recovery Facilities (MRF’s) and the Meteorological Bill and Act, 2024 to provide for modernization and monetization of meteorological services to enhance climate information under the National Framework of Climate Services and oversaw the ratification of 4 Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs); 1. Minamata Convention on Mercury; 2. Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol; 3. Bamako Convention on the Ban on the Importation into Africa & the Control of Transboundary Movement and Management of Hazardous Waste in Africa and; 4. The Amended Nairobi Convention for Protection, Management and Development of Marine & Coastal Environment. Under the Presidential Directive on the 15Bn Tree Growing Initiative (growing 15Bn Trees by 20230), Dr. Eng. Ng’eno is leading his State Department in implementing the directive through the Ministry’s National Landscapes & Ecosystems Restoration Strategy with a keen focus on the Wetlands Restoration Ecosystem (9,300 Wetlands mapped) and also the Riparian Ecosystem.
Dr. Eng. Ng’eno also oversaw the successful execution of the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS) – a unique Summit to galvanize African Leaders’ voices on climate change which led to the African Leaders Nairobi Declaration on Climate Change and Call to Action. He also led Kenya’s organization of the successful UNEA 6 Summit and was the Technical Lead in Kenya’s participation in COP 28 in UAE.
Furthermore, Dr. Eng. Ng’eno has mobilized financial resources of over KShs 50Bn from various Multilaterals and Bilaterals including the World Bank, German Government (GIZ), Government of Italy, Global Environment Facility (GEF), Global Climate Fund (GCF), Climate Investments Funds (CIF), Adaptation Fund and IUCN among others.
Prior to his appointment as Principal Secretary in the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Ng’eno served as County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in Charge of Water, Sanitation, Environment, and Energy & Climate Change at the County Government of Nakuru. In the same period, he held the same position in Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries and also Health Services at the County Government of Nakuru in an acting capacity.
At the Council of Governors Dr. Eng. Ng’eno served as the Chairman of Committee on Water, Sanitation, Environment, Forestry, Climate Change and Mining CECMs Caucus. He has also served as Board of Director at World Vision Kenya (WVK), Vision Fund Kenya (VKF), Nakuru Water & Sanitation Services Co. Ltd, Nakuru Rural Water & Sanitation Co. Ltd (NARUWASCO) and Naivasha Water & Sanitation Co. Ltd (NAIVAWASCO).
As the Group Water Treatment Manager at Davis & Shirtliff Ltd – provided leadership and management to a team of Engineers and Technicians within the Group and was responsible for Group Support Strategies, Maintaining Customer Relationships, Growing Sales, Project Pipelines and Achievement of Profitability Targets.
Dr. Eng. Ng’eno is a registered professional with the Engineers’ Board of Kenya (EBK) and is a Corporate Member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). He is also an active Member of the Kenya Society of Environmental, Biological & Agricultural Engineers (KeSEBAE) and Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK). Furthermore, he is a registered Lead Expert on Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit (EIA, EA) and Full Member at the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).
He is currently the Chairman, Board of Management at Baringo Secondary School, Kuresoi North Sub County, Nakuru County.

H.E. AbdulAziz Ahmad Al-Mahmoud is Undersecretary at in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in the State of Qatar . He started his career in 2007 with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), where he worked in various fields such as electricity transmission network planning, system operations and control, and long-term power generation and water desalination planning, as well as business development and R&D.
He was seconded to the National Planning Council (previously the Planning and Statistics Authority) in September 2022 to be the project manager of the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3).
He received his B.Sc. from Qatar University in Electrical Engineering and his M.Sc. in Electrical Energy Systems from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom.
His interests include sustainability, renewable energy and storage, strategic planning, and public policy.

Ingvild Solvang is the Deputy Director and Head of the Climate Action and Inclusive Development (CAID) Unit in the Investment and Policy Solutions Division (IPSD) in GGGI.
She has nearly 20 years experience working in international development and humanitarian affairs. Based in Southeast Asia for nearly two decades, she has responded to emergencies, while also managing development programs for various organizations worldwide, always with a focus on poverty reduction, gender equality and social inclusion. Prior to joining GGGI’s HQ in Seoul, Ingvild was the Global Lead for Entrepreneurship with CARE’s Women’s Economic Empowerment Team. With her partner, she has also supported the management of ViaVia Jogja, a sustainable tourism social enterprise in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Ingvild has a postgraduate degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Oslo and an MFA in Creative Writing from City University of Hong Kong. She has also studied Gender at SUNY Buffalo and Forced Migration at the University of Oxford.
