Driving Forward the Global Plastics Treaty: Strengthening Partnerships for Action

Global partnerships, including public-private collaborations, intergovernmental agreements, and cross-sector alliances, are essential to tackling the complex issue of plastic pollution. This session will underscore the critical role of international cooperation in addressing plastic waste and promoting sustainable resource management. By bringing together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from diverse sectors, the session will focus on practical strategies and innovative solutions.

Speakers will discuss the development of the Global Plastics Treaty, highlighting key strategies for its effective implementation in light of recent negotiations at the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) meetings. The session will also emphasize how international partnerships can create enabling environments in emerging and developing economies, addressing specific challenges such as inadequate waste management resources, informal recycling sectors, and economic pressures driving single-use plastics. By presenting effective partnership models, the session aims to inspire scalable solutions and foster new collaborations to advance global efforts in eradicating plastic pollution.
