Carbon Markets: State of Carbon Pricing Instruments
Date: Oct 24, 2022
Time: 21:00 to 22:30 (KST/GMT+9)
Overview:
Carbon markets are entering a new phase of development. Sixty-eight carbon pricing instruments (including carbon taxes and emission trading systems) are operating worldwide, and several more are scheduled for implementation or under consideration. At the same time, the agreement on the Article 6 rulebook at COP26 and the recent growth of the voluntary carbon market (VCM) are leading to a renewed focus on cross-border approaches and have the potential to create a new global carbon pricing architecture.
Against this backdrop, this session will review the global landscape and discuss how the interaction between domestic carbon pricing instruments, Article 6 mechanisms, and the voluntary carbon market can help African countries reduce emissions, finance their NDC and attract private sector investment promoting climate action and sustainable development.
