Overview:

Policy and long-term planning are essential enablers for countries to transition to low emission and climate resilient development. Without a longer-term vision, it is challenging to prioritize wisely the immediate and most urgent solutions that need to be fast tracked, and the mid- and longer-term actions which will be needed to meet countries’ NDC targets under the Paris Agreement.

The Pacific NDC Hub, with partners SPC, SPREP, GIZ, and GGGI, aids Pacific Island Countries (PICs) in implementing nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement. This session discusses NDC Hub’s contributions, global LT-LEDS learnings, emphasizing partnerships, gender, and social inclusion. Valuable lessons from the Pacific will be shared, encouraging their application in broader programs. To date, GGGI has supported Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Lao PDR as well as four PICs Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Solomon Islands to develop an LT-LEDS. GGGI is also on-track to support more LT-LEDS development and NDC enhancements in the region.

This session will reflect on the country requests delivered by the NDC Hub and the global learnings of LT-LEDS from case studies in the Pacific. The importance of partnerships and collaboration such as the NDC Hub model and integrating gender and social inclusion into its activities will be highlighted. The session will conclude with sharing invaluable lessons for the community of practice and encourage lessons learnt from the Pacific to be scaled up to other programs.
