NAPs Global Assessment: NAP Enhancement and Adaptation Finance in the Context of the Global Stocktake

Overview:
NAPs are a critical tool for countries to respond effectively to climate change. They enable nations to integrate climate resilience into their development agendas, prioritize resources, and fulfill international commitments while building a more sustainable and resilient future. The session will present the GGGI led initiative on the development of the NAP quality assessment framework. The session will present preliminary results of the global review and assessment of countries’ NAPs submitted until now to the UNFCCC, with the aim to develop guidelines on NAP enhancement considering the Global Stocktake process of the UNFCCC to empower developing countries to build climate resilience. In addition, the session will also present results of the global study on financial needs of adaptation as have been laid down into countries’ NAPs and discuss climate adaptation finance opportunities. Lastly, the session also aims to discuss NAP application perspectives from Governments (e.g. Rwanda, UAE, Sri Lanka) and donors (e.g. DANIDA) identifying opportunities and challenges for enhanced NAP process ensuring effective implementation.
