Overview:
The reports from IPBES and IPCC in 2021 have jointly emphasized the crucial need to address both biodiversity loss and climate change as interconnected challenges, with a specific emphasis on the urgency of taking action to achieve the 1.5-degree target through adaptation measures. Given the recognition of this pressing urgency, GGGI is actively engaged in the implementation of various initiatives, including Nature based Solutions, Natural Capital Protection and Adaptation projects. This session will discuss about the case in Latin America and the Caribbean where GGGI is supporting the “American Flyaway initiative” by designing a blended finance mechanism. Additionally, the session will delve into an innovative perspective on REDD+ through a natural capital forest asset approach, facilitating the acceleration of indigenous land titling and harnessing its economic value.
